Health Care Without Harm Nurses Workgroup.  Her project, Environmental Health and Safety for Healthcare Professionals, will focus on a regional conference on May 7, 2010, for nurses on environmental health and safety.

Participants will learn evidence-based standards of care in clinical environmental health and prevention for both themselves and their patients. The project also involves the active participation of registered nurses from some of the SON’s partner healthcare agencies. The SON’s Center for Lifelong Learning Web site (http://nursing.ce.unc.edu/) will post additional information about this conference in the months to come.

Coretta Jenerette Will Study Sickle Cell Disease with NINR Award

Career Development Award from the National Institute of Nursing Research. Jenerette’s research focuses on care of adults with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). As part of this award, she will study the pathophysiology and pain of SCD, gain experience and additional instruction in developing theory-based interventions for adults with SCD and develop skills in longitudinal clinical trial methods and data analysis.

Her mentoring team consists of SON professor Merle Mishel, UNC College of Arts and Sciences Dean Karen Gil (clinical psychologist), and UNC School of Medicine associate professor Kenneth Ataga. Jenerette’s overall goals are to design interventions to help adults with SCD improve their health and quality of life with self-care strategies and increase the resources of adults with SCD in the healthcare system.
